Fabric Pom Tutorial

Today I bring you another  MAKE IT MONDAY tutorial!
HANGING FABRIC POMS

I have seen MANY styles of these pom and flower Fabric balls going around...
this is just MY version and MY way of making them
ENJOY :)

Supplies:
Styrofoam balls
Fabric
scissors
twine or ribbon
glue gun
straight pins

Directions :
(my directions were using 3in foam balls - make sure you adjust your fabric size and squares for the size of Styrofoam you get. )

Start out by cutting your fabric into 2 inch squares
You will take one square and fold it in half at an angle and then in half the other way, also at an angle.
so all points of the square are showing and pointing up.
next, you will take your straight pin and put it right in the middle of your bottom point and stick it straight into the foam ball
(it will lay flat but once you add more fabric they will puff and stand up straight)
Keep doing this all around the ball
*be sure to alternate the angle of the fabric*
(straight, tipped to the right, tipped to the left)
this is what it will look like half way through
flip it over and start working on the underside now
when you are just about done leave a small opening where the foam is exposed....
Now cut a piece of twine or ribbon
(this is what you will hang your balls with - I used twine for mine)
tie a knot at the end of your ribbon or twine and set it on the open spot of your ball
using my staple gun I tacked it into place
**this step is optional...you can skip this and go straight to gluing it on if you want**
i also hot glued over the top of the knot and staple....
then cut a slit into one of the pieces of fabric squares - so your twine can go through it -
and lay it onto of the glue to cover the knot
now if you are short like me you will either need a ladder to hang your beautiful creations
OR
grab your handy hubby to hang them for you ;)
and there you have it.... a beautiful easy affordable decoration for any room!
** I used cream cotton canvas for one of the balls and burlap for the other two...any type of fabric will work though ;) **

  5. Laura - I think it is pretty much the same idea...the only difference I have seen with the tissue ones is A - the hot glue then on and B - i have only seen them done with paper lanterns not foam balls. But all in all it would work with any material :)
