I hate when I have a "good idea" in my head and it turns out to be a big fat FAIL
That has happened to me A LOT lately :(
For instance, I was going to do a review on refashions using bleach BUT everything I tried to do with it turned out HORRIBLE!
Don't believe me?
Let me show you.......
attempt #1
silhouette keys using bleach
sounded simple enough in my head to me....dilute bleach in a water mixture, lay the keys on the pillow case, spray, let dry and done....NOPE! didn't work at all...didn't hardly even bleach the dang thing!
believe it or not this was AFTER spraying the bleach :-/ |
Attempt #2
stencil designs using bleach
same thing, get a onesie, lay out a stencil, use bleach mixture {but a little stronger this time}, let dry and done...NOPE bleached out the WHOLE onesie....uuugghhh!
so the moral is...
me and bleach aren't friends
OR
I am just trying TOO hard and not creative enough right now
Either way I'm frustrated and feeling uninspired and not very creative right now!
HAVE YOU HAD ANY FAILS LATELY?
Just a thought, but maybe the bleach was too old. It loses it's bleaching power over time. Maybe if you bought a new bottle and tried again it would work! :) Also, try bleach pens (brand new ones, I've failed with old ones!)
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I've totally failed lately. I tried to upcycle a shirt and had to trash the whole thing I ruined it so badly.
Bleach Pens are where it's at for this kind of project!
ReplyDeleteMe and bleach are not friends either. I have a tendency to spill/splash it on stuff... tear.
ReplyDeleteNot sure how this might work... I saw the bleach pens comment... THat would probably be easier, but maybe using a paint brush to brush on the bleach? If you try another method, please share with us!
ReplyDeleteThanks for being so honest and candid! I'm in a creative rut, too!

Maybe try using a small sponge dipped on the bleach and go over it that way on the stencil then have a seperate bottle of pure vinegar and spray it right after you use the bleach . The vinegar stops the bleach from spreading all over . Just a thought xo
ReplyDeleteHAha!! This was my post on facebook this morning!! About how I ruined two pumpkins with spray paint today!! Maybe it's the season... we just need to make something great, and then all the FAILED attempts will be forgotten:)
ReplyDeleteI totally would have thought that would of worked and it sure would have been cute! I mess up all the time. I envision crafts so much better in my mind than how they turn out!
ReplyDeletei saw a super cute design made with a bleach pen. i got to joann's to get it. my kids realized but i didn't that they sell them for stains (duh). i had made my own pattern and sewn a shirt for my daughter. we talked about the pattern to put on it. we laid it all out. i did the bleach. let it stand. it didn't touch it. you couldn't tell i even tried. ugh! i'm with you. the bleach was not my friend.
ReplyDeleteI've got a couple of suggestions.
ReplyDelete1) dont dilute the bleach
2) do it in the sun. The sun helps it develop
I had the same problem with bleaching t-shirts that I had put contact paper designs on until I followed those 2 steps.
Good luck!
Lindsay
I think I know what you were trying to achieve.... try this stuff..

It uses UV rays to "bleach" the fabric. VERY cool! I found about it from Lil Blu Boo blog.
bleach pen for sure! i love it for vamping up black shirts that have faded in the wash. with bleach accents they look like they are supposed to be that way! ...but project flops happen to us all - no worries!
ReplyDeleteTry wax (like batik)to keep the bleach from bleeding through to the rest of the fabric. Also Elmers blue gel glue resists dye but washes out in the washer... Might work on bleach too. I would say don't dilute so much maybe 10% water?
