Burlap Advent Calendar {{tutorial}} knock off style

This last weekend I made a DARLING burlap advent calendar!! 

I am in LOVE with it!
My inspiration?

This $99 Pottery Barn version :

Yup you read that right!!!

less than FIVE bucks!

I know you all want to make one too, so here's how : 

SUPPLIES : 

I bought 1.5 yards of this mock burlap linen {for only $2.49 per yard at walmart}

Glue gun OR sewing machine

measuring tape

scissors

vinyl or fabric for the numbers

I used my NEW Silhouette machine to cut out vinyl numbers for my advent calendar!
I couldn't believe how easy and fun it was to do!

after you have all your supplies gathered up
CUT YOUR FABRIC IN HALF
{ON THE SIDE OF THE FOLD THAT IT COMES WITH FROM THE BOLT}
SAVE THE OTHER HALF FOR THE "POCKETS"
Then, fray the sides of your fabric by slightly pulling on the side strings until the start to unravel a bit
{one side of mine was already this way so I only had to do it to one side}
this step is optional
I just liked the look of it! 

fold and Cut your left over fabric into FIVE equal sections

and then cut that pile into five more equal sections

 {my rectangles came out to be about 5x4 inches}

now here is the tedious part...i decided to just glue mine but you could sew them as well!
fold down and iron all four sides
do the top and bottom first and then the sides

 glue down the bottom corners of the BOTTOM of your fabric

do this TWENTY FIVE Times...see tedious!! 

But well worth it :)

 after you have all your "pockets" made and laid out

{five rows by five rows}
glue them down

glue the bottom and the sides and press firmly down on the pockets
{the top of the "pocket" should be open still}

 after all your pockets are glued down

add your cute numbers to each pocket!
I used my Silhouette vinyl for the numbers

but you could also do it with paint or fabric! 

 lastly I folded the top and bottom inch over and glued it down leaving an opening to slide a metal or wood dowel to keep it straight and weigh it down!

 I attached a cute piece of fabric to hang it up with but you could just as easily use ribbon or some other decorate touch!

 and your done!!!
 A super cute advent calendar that saves you more than $95!!!!

I wish I could have shown you what this looks like up with all my Christmas decor BUT I don't have it out yet :(
