Guest Blogger {{Tutorial}} Lipstick and Laundry

Hi! My name is Brandy
and I am flattered to be a guest on Brittany's insanely inspiring blog.
Can I just tell you that she is as sweet and genuine in person as she is on her blog.
Thanks B for having me!
I am a Mother first and a Makeup Artist second.

Check out my NEW blog
(when I say new, I mean like 48 hours new!)
where my two passions collide.
I have lots of fun things planned like giveaways
(I’m talking about makeup people!)
Tutorials.
Tips and Tricks.
Just to name a few….
Since my new blog is pretty bare you can swing by my other blog if you would like:
Okay, okay enough about me…..let’s talk about YOU!
Today I want to show you how you can create a

sexy

smokey

look for your sizzling summer nights.

(Photo Disclaimer: I am NOT a photographer if you can't tell. Hope you get the idea!)
The smokey eye has always been popular but right now it is HOT, HOT, HOT.
Thank you, Kim Kardashian.
The key to the perfect smokey eye is proper blending technique, you want the blending to be flawless. Another important tip is to make sure you always pair light base colors, with rich dark colors.
Since it's summer, try going for a look that is soft and shimmery yet smoldering.
In this step-by-step tutorial, we will be using coppers and rich browns.
{but you can use the same technique with whatever color palette you want.}

What you will need:

a} False Eyelashes (optional)
I used MAC #32
b} Shimmery Brown Eye Color
I used Smog from the Urban Decay Palette Ammo and Woodwinked from MAC
c} A creamy waterproof eye liner in brown with a hint of shimmer
I used Underground, an Urban Decay's 24/7 liner
d} Eye primer
I used Painterly Paint Pot from MAC
e} A matte dark brown
I used Down Brown from MAC
f} A champagne or gold lid color
I used Sin from the Urban Decay Palette Ammo
g} A highlight color
I used Polyester Bride from the Urban Decay Palette Ammo

The brushes used to achieve this look:

from top to bottom.
a} a flat eye shadow brush b} pencil brush c} flat smudge brush d} blending brush e} round crease brush f} crease brush g} large lay down brush

Okay, now for the fun part!

Step 1: Prep the entire lid with an eye primer.
Not only will this help with the longevity of the shadow, it will keep the eyeshadow from melting into your creases.
Step 2: Apply Base Color
You can do this by sweeping a light, shimmery shadow over the lid, starting at your eyelashes, and working your way up to the crease. I used my large lay down brush and applied the color Sin.
Step 3: Apply Crease Color
Take your crease brush and dip into a shimmery brown. Starting at the outside corner of the eye using "windshield wiper" motions blend the color into the crease. Then take a fluffy crease brush, dip into the matte dark brown color and trace lightly over the shimmery brown. Then blend your heart out!
Step 4: Apply creamy liner to the upper lash line. Make the line thick. It doesn't have to be a perfect line because you are going to be smudging it onto the lid.
Step 5: Smudge. Smudge. Smudge.
Take your pencil brush or flat smudge brush and smudge the liner into the lash line and half way up the lid until the harsh line you created has disappeared.

(Remember I'm NOT camera savvy!)
Step 6: Connect the smudge line and the crease color.
Take your pencil brush and dip into the matte brown. Draw a sideways "V" into outside corner of the eye connecting the line and the crease color. Then take your fluffy crease brush and blend some more. Add more color in the corner if you want more depth.
Step 7: Highlight below the brow bone with a flat eye shadow brush.
You can choose a matte or a shimmer highlight color.
Step 8: Curl eyelashes and apply volumizing mascara. For a more dramatic look, apply false lashes.
TIP: When you wear a smokey eye, be sure to have a nude lip. You want all the attention to be on your eyes.
I hope this tutorial was helpful.
Just remember: When in doubt, blend it out!
