Guest Blogger {{Tutorial}} Just SEW sassy - ruffle scarf

Hi all you fabulous Love Stitched readers!! How cool to be featured by Brittany, she rocks!!
We're Staci and Marina from
We started this little ol' blog of ours a little over 6 months ago, for the love of all things crafty. Sewing, and creating that are our passions, and so we decided to open up a little Etsy shop as well!
So... I'm Staci
Here's a little bit about me. I'm a SAHM to three darling troublemakers that make me laugh and a little insane sometimes:) My husband is the best, he's my # 1 support and cheerleader. I never thought I would could be domestic, but now I wouldn't have it any other way!! Crafty things make me happy!!
Marina is my partner in crime:)
She is a working mama, and has 2 beautiful daughters ages 7 and 3. Her husband is pretty cool too! They all love and support her in all that she does. Marina is amazingly talented at bags, purses, clutches, zipper pouches, and pretty much all things bags. She's my hero.
Thanks so much for having us Brittany! Hope to see you all sometime over on Just Sew Sassy!!

Ruffle Scarf Tutorial
from

Supplies:
  • 1/4 yard each of 2 coordinating fabrics
  • as many other coordinating fabrics as you would like for your ruffles (I used 3 more)
  • cutting mat, ruler, and rotary cutter
  • sewing machine and thread
Step 1:
You can cut your scarf as wide as you would like, I cut this one to be about 9 inches and kept it the length of the fabric (about 42 inches).
Cut 2 pieces, one for your front and back.
Next cut the strips for your ruffles.  I cut each different fabric, a slightly different width, just for variety, but if you want to even them all up, go for it.  Keep in mind, you need them wide enough to hem.  Make each strip 1 and 1/2 or double the width of the scarf.  (For example, if my scarf is 9 inches across, I want my strip to be 14 or more inches long)
Step 2:
Hem each ruffle strip.  Do this by folding the raw edge of both sides of your strip of fabric 1/4 inch, and then another 1/4 inch.  Press, and sew into place.  (After you press it, you can pin the fabric to help the it stay put.)
Step 3:
Make ruffles!  Sew a gathering stitch (the longest stitch setting on your sewing machine) along the center of each strip of fabric.  Pull the bobbin thread on one side of the strip until it starts to gather and scrunch.  Continue to scrunch and pull the strip until the ruffles are even.
Next, pin the ruffles to each end, of each piece of the scarf.  Make sure and pin them to the right side.
Sew each ruffle in place.
Step 4:
Place one of the scarf pieces on top of the other, right sides facing, and pin in place.
Sew along the edge of the scarf using a 1/2 inch seam allowance.  Make sure and leave about 4 or 5 inches open to turn right side out.
Step 5:
Turn the fabric right side out.  Find the opening, and fold the fabric down inside the scarf and press in place.  Press the entire outside edge of the scarf to make sewing easier.
Start at the opening and sew along the entire edge of the scarf one more time.
Guess what!  You’re done!!

You can use any fabric you would like for this project, I used cotton.  Also use as many or as few ruffles as you would like!
